Another Enigma of Life.

How does one know when to give up ? When is it really ok to say I cannot go on anymore ...I quit ?

Or should one never give up at all ?

The fact that some people cannot succeed at something however hard you try ...is it an indication that you probably should explore other options without wasting your time ? or is it just that you have'nt tried hard enough ?

I guess we all have our own thresholds ...and there is only so much we can take before we quit . But then is'nt success about challenging your limits ....and then some more ???

You have to enjoy what you are doing, and also have an existence outside of your work. I think you'd be tempted to quite if the above two factors are affected.

Myself being a PhD grad, have been through similar situation, know exactly what the feeling is when the end seems no where near.
Believe me, PhD is but one degree, where in its more of patience and effort rather than skills of person and his ability to or not to do something.

Your suggestion to your friend to carry on is correct in my opinion and it might infact prevent the person from ending up in the darkest of dark corners of life...rather than otherwise.

Success is very personal measure. To some people being close to bill gates is succes and to some being Medha patkar is success... i hope u get what i mean,

One thing phd teaches a person for sure is what hes good or bad at and it helps a person to measure things in correct spirit.

Neways, a metric of success as defined by u is what keeps us poor souls motivated ....
